Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) is a group of autonomous public institutions in India focused on producing high-quality scientists, engineers, and technologists. Established in 1950, they are under the purview of the Ministry of Education of the Government of India and are governed by the Institutes of Technology Act, 1961. These institutes are renowned for their excellence in teaching, research, and development in science and engineering fields. There are more than 20 IITs functioning under this Act. Each IIT operates autonomously and is linked to the others through a common council called the IIT Council, which oversees their administration.

Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs)
​
The Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) are centrally funded Business schools for management studies. They offer programmes under various levels. They include programmes at undergraduate, post graduate, executive and doctoral levels. All the IIMs are registered Societies governed by their respective Board of Governors.
​
The Institutes located at Ahmedabad, Kolkata, Bangalore, Lucknow, Indore, Kozhikode and Shillong are institutions of excellence, established with the objectives of imparting high quality management education and training, conducting research and providing consultancy services in the field of management to various sectors of the Indian economy. They are recognized as premier management institutions, comparable to the best in the World for teaching, research and interaction with industries.
The IIMs were declared institutions of national importance by the Ministry of Human Resource Development after the passage of Indian Institute of Management Act, 2017. By this act, IIMs were given more autonomy in handling their day-to-day operations. Since the passage of IIM Act 2017, all IIMs have started offering Master of Business Administration (MBA).

These Institutions also conduct research to cater to the needs of non-corporate and under-managed sectors, viz. Agriculture, Rural Development, Public Systems Management, Energy, Health Education, Habitat, etc. IIMs being role models have shared knowledge and skills with other institutions to improve their quality and standards in management education. The Indian Institute of Science (IISc)

The Indian Institute of Science (IISc) is a public, deemed, research University for higher education and research in science, engineering, design, and management. It is located in Bengaluru.

The Institute was established in 1909 with active support from Jamsetji Tata and thus is also known as the Tata Institute. Over the years, it has become India’s premier institute for advanced scientific and technological research and education. Its mandate is “to provide for advanced instruction and to conduct original investigations in all branches of knowledge as are likely to promote the material and industrial welfare of India.”

IISc’s research output is diverse, interdisciplinary and cuts across traditional boundaries. The Institute has many academic departments and centres. It has strived to foster a balance between the pursuit of basic knowledge and applying its research for industrial and social benefit. It has several postgraduate and PhD programmes, as well as a dedicated four-year undergraduate programme aimed at providing research-oriented training for young students in the basic sciences.

All-India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS)

The All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) is a network of autonomous public medical colleges in India. They have been established to provide high-quality medical education to aspiring students across the country. They are widely regarded as the top medical institutions in India and recognized as ‘Institutes of National Importance’.

The first institute was created in 1956 in New Delhi through an Act of Parliament. It was established with the objects to develop patterns of teaching in Undergraduate and Post-graduate Medical Education in all its branches so as to demonstrate a high standard of Medical Education in India and to attain self-sufficiency in Post-graduate Medical Education. This Institute has comprehensive facilities for teaching, research and patient-care. Teaching and research are conducted in various disciplines. There are more than 20 such institutes throughout the country.

Admission to AIIMS courses depends on the specific program, with the NEET-UG examination conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) being mandatory for the MBBS program. Other courses like nursing, paramedical, and postgraduate programs have different entrance exams like the Institute of National Importance Combined Entrance Test (INI-CET).

The Ministry of Education has established the National Testing Agency (NTA) as an independent, autonomous and self-sustained premier testing organisation for conducting efficient, transparent and international standard tests in order to assess the competency of candidates for admission to premier higher education institutions.
